-$- Nights Journey of Dreams

Ever seen a loved one or dear friend get drunk and make a fool of themselves? You know that awful, embarrassed feeling you got? That's how I felt playing NiGHTs Journey Into Dreams.

The original NiGHTs is one of my all-time favorite games. My brother and I played through it probably 50 times, until we had a score of A+ on every single course. You can imagine I was excited when I heard a sequel was coming for Wii...

Boy, what a disappointment. The flying levels are still sorta fun, but the whole bird-chasing-thing takes away the freedom of flying and exploring. You are constantly aware that you are on a rail. The platform levels are extremely boring and frustrating. I get the feeling they were tacked on to increase playing time.

But wait a minute, you say. I should be willing to overlook these flaws, right? After all, its NiGHTS, we get to have the return of a cult classic! WRONG. On top of the subpar gameplay, there is a major problem with the game, and this is a deal breaker. What the eff is up with the cringe inducing voices?? NiGHTs is a girl? And has a fake British accent? Really?!?! I find it really hard to believe that Yuji Naka envisioned it that way. And to make things worth, YOU CANNOT SKIP the long and excruciatingly awful cinema scenes, or at least change it into Japanese. The horrible dialogue and obnoxious voices seriously made me want to vomit: "fancy a persona mask do ya gov'na?" UGHHH!!

I really wanted to like this game. I really did. If you have never played the Saturn game, and don't understand why I am being so negative, think of the original Star Wars vs The Phantom Menace, and you will have an idea of what I am taking about.

Bottom line, like the parade of horrible remakes from "SEGA" the past few years, its just another attempt to cash in on our nostalgia. You would be better off picking up the import remake for PS2, of just remembering it for what it was.

Thank you corporate-shell-known-as-SEGA; you have ruined yet another cherished franchise.
